5.26 A day in Instagram

Yesterday I had a great day of running silly errands around town. Some grocery shopping, returning rental movies... not the funnest of things to be shopping for. However I did take some time out to stop by one of my few favorite retail stores, Nordstrom Rack to see if they had any of my beloved Betsey Johnson items that I just needed. I got lucky and found two rings that I had skipped on in the past at over 50% off. Only $40 for the pair, which just had me tickled.

My late night walk with the dogs was rather beautiful to make the day even better. The sunset was pink and just absolutely gorgeous! One of those that cameras just cant seem to capture.

From what I can gather it's a great start to the long holiday weekend.

Ye Olde Renaissance Faire

It was finally that time of year that my mother & I take our yearly trip to The Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, CA. It's one of my favorite things to look forward to in the summer, I love the opportunity to dress up and revel in all the fun to be had at the faire.

Our trip this year was last minute since the last few months seemed to fly by, so we endeavored out to the Santa Fe Dam area on the Saturday of closing weekend, which was a tad warmer than I'd hope for but didn't damper our fun any-less.

We had some ahh-mah-zing fish & chips, which is always a favorite of mine, and a delicious strawberry tart to fill my belly while enjoying some of my favorite faire entertainment, Moonie & Broon. (I was a complete nerd and had to get my photo with each of them this year, since I've always talked myself out of it in the past...)

As always my day in the past flew by far too quickly, and now I must begin the countdown till next year's pleasure faire. (Seriously, why can't we all wear cloaks more often? It makes you feel like youre in a fairytale and I absolutely love it)

Maybe by then I will be able to convince my mother to dress-up a bit more. ;)

To find a Renaissance faire near you in the US, peruse this website. Renfaire.com
It's choc-full  of great information and an impressive directory of Medieval, Pirate and many other faires of related themes!

I guess I took a 3 month hiatus...

Since my birthday weekend I've been a little dead to the world of blogging, so much for that New Year's resolution to keep a better record of my life...

Anyway I have been debating if I should post a few recap photos of my last three months, however I think that would be a mess all in itself.

Now I've had my Nikon fixed, and my health problems seem to have been solved for the present so I am going to solemnly swear to make myself blog. However, it's nearly 11:45 and I've lead a rather uneventful day so far. So I'll just wait till tomorrow after my mother and my annual trip to the renaissance faire to share photos and get back into the swing of things.

Goodnight & Sweet Dreams World.

The Last Day of 23

Apparently tomorrow I shall have been on this Earth for 24 years.

I am finishing my last night as a twenty three year old watching Stage Door, a massive hot cup of tea and a cigarette.

Now to cuddle up with the puppy and get some beauty sleep. For that would be the ideal way to begin year twenty four.

Film Night: The Clock

I finally got my hands on a copy of The Clock, a Judy Garland picture I've been dying to see for years this week thanks to Ye Olde Netflix.

Just as I had assumed and hoped it would be, it was full of naive and beautiful 1940's romance. A working girl and a soldier on leave share a few days in the hustle and bustle of New York City, forming a bond much stronger than either could have foreseen.

There was even a small, but fantastic bit by my favorite character actor Kennan Wynn as 'The Drunk'.

I have got to get my hand on a copy for keeps, cause I spent the entire time charmed and simply delighted.

Culture, sunshine & dead authors

Yesterday my dear friend Monica and I took advantage of the beautiful(and yes, maybe a little too warm) California day, and enjoyed a day at The J. Paul Getty museum here in Los Angeles.

We were both looking forward to seeing two of the current exhibits showing photo sets from Hollywood during the 50's through the mid 70's. They ended up being a bit disappointing, but we were glad to have seen them none the less.

After a few hours gawking at the beautiful art, and the great view of the city we ventured over to one of my favorite Hollywood eateries, Astro Burger. It is a great spot for vegeterians and vegans, however today I just settled for a small french fry.

After fulfilling ourselves both culturally and physically we were off to the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre to see my very favorite comedian, Mr. Paul F Tompkin's Dead Author show, which is all-together amazing. It was Monica's first time, and the whole show had us in complete stitches. We've already pledged to attend as many as we can fit into our schedules this year.

If you want to hear more about the Dead Authors Podcast, check it out HERE. I cannot say enough good things about it. Boy, oh boy!

It was such a great day spent in my old stomping grounds.

Adventures in Doughnut-Making

I always spend New Years at home. I don't know why but that's one day I've never enjoyed spending out and about or doing too much partying. I find it much more enjoyable to start out the new year sans hangover in my own home.

Anyway, I usually spend the evening watching the Twilight Zone marathon, however this year my dear friend Monica came over after work and we watched North and South, our absolute favorite! Than I was back to my Twilight Zone, and a few old big band records.

However, after a relaxing day at home watching movies yesterday, today I have been running around like mad taking the dogs for a walk, cleaning, getting ready for all the Christmas decoration take down and trying out my brand new donut maker.

It came with a little recipe booklet so I went with their Buttermilk spice donut(although I added a little icing of my own recipe, instead of their cinnamon sugar mixture) and for a first go I think I did A-OK.

I definitely ended up munching on a few too many today, they were just too good, and ended up with a bit of a sweet overdose. (Which if you must overdose, is always the best kind.)

I can't wait to try the chocolate donuts recipe soon!
