Fall Dapper Day, More like Fall Flapper Day

As the Disney fan and all around vintage enthusiast I am- Dapper Day at Disneyland is always an event that I look forward to. In years past I usually stay with my 1950's styles, but this event I was influenced by the Carthay Circle itself, and the slightly earlier era of surrounding Buena Vista Street.

My girlfriends and I as always, managed to pull all our outfits together under a short deadline with flying colors, and even the heat couldn't keep the smile off my face.

Of course I chose my favorite Princess Snow White, and from L-R the gals decided to invoke Aurora, Ariel, Jessica Rabbit and Elsa.

The Dapper Day Expo was a great intermission from the summer sun, especially the Besame Cosmetics booth. Their products are truly the picture of vintage perfection. The packaging and the products are just killer, and I could oogle it all forever.

Also since it was Dapper Day, we wanted to do something 'more special' then our usual weekly trip. So we made reservations for Carthay Circle, it is an absolute dream and even more beautiful then I had anticipated. With Snow White's woodland forest on the ceilings, to the evil queen's face so subtly detailed on the tables and the 1930's vibe .. I was in heaven.

As always we are already planning our outfits for the Spring Event, (and a hundred more on top of that) for more on Dapper Day visit DapperDay.com

Welcome to Disneyland Captain

So, as the total superhero fan I am I had to go to Disneyland and Disneybound the newest Marvel Avenger to arrive at Innoventions, Steve Rogers himself on the first official day the meet and greet would be open to the public.

To be honest I am just always looking for a themed day to dress up for, planning a special outfit for a special day is one of my favorite pleasures.... But being the 1940's enthusiast I am Captain America really taps into a whole database of outfit potential for me.

However, when going to Disney you can't go the full costume route, and although I was tempted to channel Peggy Carter and wear my military-esque green jacket and pencil skirt, it just seemed a little too formal for even myself at a theme park... but hey, maybe next time.

We didn't have to wait long at all, and as usual Disney did not disappoint us. The Captain loved our red, white and blue ensembles and complained about modern technology with me. I think I might be even more anxious for Winter Soldier to come out now ;)

We might have went in to see Thor twice though... I can't help it.
I might have a problem.

Snow White loves the Outdoors... Or so i've heard.

With my 26th birthday looming just a little over a week away I've been feeling my Peter Pan complex growing stronger by the day. I just don't want to grow up.

Sometimes you just have escape and go outside for an hour or so and play around dressed like your favorite princess.

Why The Lady Damfino?

Goodbye Wishing Will Make It So, and Welcome to The Lady Damfino.

One of the questions I most frequently get asked is what my instagram name means or why exactly I chose it, and now that I am changing my blog name as well I suppose I can attempt a bit of an explanation.

As I have a huge, undying adoration for Buster Keaton I chose the name Damfino which was the name of 'the boat' in the short film of the same name in 1921.  It was presumed that Damfino meant 'damn fine'.

Now, the way I see it I'm not referring to myself as being 'damn fine' but as everything is okay, you better believe it's damn fine. Damfino is nothing but positive affirmation.

So although I did love my old blog name, which had lots of meaning to me just the way it was before... I am more then eager to see where the Lady Damfino takes me.

Lady Damfino, it's all okay, the woman is fine...

And I hope every time you visit my little site you can know that everything truly is fine.

Just an easy day and dinner at Jack's

In my usual Saturday fashion I spent most of my day doing chores, running errands and recooping from my first Disneyland trip of the new year(and let me tell you, it was a doozy).

After years and years of my father recounting his old high school years and going to Jack's to get a burger a fries after basketball practice I decided I had to check the place out. It did recently go through a remodel but the restaurant was established in 1933, and still manages to retain a lot of its quaint, vintage charm.

I ordered my damn fine cup of coffee right away, then settled on a typical diner choice for me, the chef salad. It was the size of my head! The food was good, and the best part was the piece of apple pie I brought home for dessert. Holy moly, I'm already planning my next trip back just to grab another piece of that pie.

Happy 79th Birthday Elvis!

Although I'm not one to usually go out on a Wednesday night, this particular Wednesday night was a different story because it was Elvis's birthday, and Elvis's birthday must be celebrated.

Last year I started attending a few different Elvis 'impersonator' kind of events, and to be honest they are perfectly up my alley in a lot of ways. Some good food, a place to wear some of my more eccentric vintage frocks surrounded by lovable older folks and a place to sit and most importantly watch somebody shake it around like the king himself.

Azteca is a really cute little restaurant that is all Elvis, all year round and it was the perfect place to remember Elvis on his special day. Every space on the wall seems to be covered with some sort of photos or memorabilia, something new catches my eye every visit. Not to mention I stuffed my belly so full of fries and Shirley Temples I could possibly explode, I think the King would have approved.

Another California Christmas

This year Christmas was at the Beach again.

Usually I'd love a chance to enjoy the absolutely gorgeous fews days of 80 degree weather without a single cloud in the sky ( in the middle of December ) However, I'd been suffering from tension headaches for almost two weeks so I wasn't exactly in the mood for time in the sun.

My aunt and uncle's home is an absolute dream, and staying over for even a night is like being in a hotel. Everything is beautiful and clean and new and it makes me want to clean like crazy the second i get home and back to reality.

We always have this crazy cousin activity of sorts that one of my aunt and uncle's send us on to get our presents, and it's always some sort of fantastic activity with them. My younger, more sporty cousins tend to choose things like sports games or skiing, and I am more then eager to choose something more along the lines of art and culture. This year my cousin and I both chose to see the Book of Mormon, which is on my Tony winners list of shame and I can't wait to go see it with them! Finding out what activity I get to go on each year is always the thing I look the most forward to, and this year was a doozy without a doubt.

I didn't take too many photos of the actual Christmas festivities this year, so you'll just have to settle for some of the beautiful surroundings.

Happy New Year! A new year, a whole new blog.

well, not a whole new blog.

But with a new year, and the resolutions I hope to hold along with it, my blog is something I am aiming to improve this year.

Although I've still got a dead computer working against me I am going to do my best to bring so much more to 'Wishing will make it so' and the ideas in my head are absolutely boundless.

So, I'll keep it brief because it's late and I'm sure I am starting to get that 'burning the midnight oil' kind of crazy look in my eyes.. however good things are to come.

I have a belated Christmas post to come and after that some different posts that will blend my love of vintage along with modern fashion, films and even some DIY.

I am looking forward to seeing what 2014 will bring and I hope you'll come along on the journey with me.
